In the spring of 2006, the Board of Directors of Tahoe Forest Hospital District embarked on a planning process to define the capital and facility needs of the District for the next twenty years. Ultimately, nearly $200 million in projects were identified, including state-mandated seismic upgrades, as desirable or necessary for the delivery of high quality medical care throughout our District.

We conducted three community surveys to measure support for a possible tax to pay for hospital improvements. The surveys indicated that voters would support such a tax if the total bond amount was less than $100 million, and if it supported projects the community deemed as high-priority, including:

  • Emergency Department
  • Cancer Center
  • Long Term Care
  • Women and infant’s health / Seismic upgrades

On June 26, 2007 the District Board adopted a resolution asking the voters of our District to pass a General Obligation Bond in the amount of $98.5 million. On June 27, 2007, The Friends of Tahoe Forest Hospital, a Political Action Committee filed with the State of California, launched a campaign to solicit voter support for the Bond measure.

On September 25, 2007, the voters of Tahoe Forest Hospital District passed Measure C with an overwhelming 72% support.

On this web site you can learn about the Measure C projects planned or underway for our Truckee campus.
